DGFT issues immediate ban on all direct and indirect imports from Pakistan, citing national security.

In a decisive move citing national security and public policy concerns, the Government of India has imposed an immediate ban on all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan—whether imported directly or indirectly through any trade route.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, enforced the prohibition via Notification No. 06/2025-26 dated 2nd May 2025. The order introduces a new clause, Para 2.20A, to the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, explicitly stating that: “Direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, whether or not freely importable or otherwise permitted, shall be prohibited with immediate effect, until further orders.”
This marks a significant escalation in India’s trade policy and effectively halts all imports from Pakistan, regardless of their point of entry or trade facilitation.
Full details of the notification are available on the DGFT portal: https://dgft.gov.in.
