FedEx to transform India’s logistics landscape with an automated cargo hub connecting global markets.
FedEx is in talks with the Indian government to establish its first fully automated air cargo hub in India. The proposed hub aims to enhance connectivity between Indian cities and international markets while serving as a regional gateway for South Asia.
Kami Viswanathan, President of FedEx MEISA, revealed ongoing discussions on regulatory changes and partnerships with airport operators to facilitate the project. Although a timeline is yet to be set, the initiative is poised to revolutionise India’s logistics infrastructure.
Key regulatory shifts include enabling transshipment for seamless global cargo movement. The hub will feature advanced facilities, including automated sorting and X-ray screening.
FedEx, which already operates global hubs in Memphis, Guangzhou, Dubai, and Charles de Gaulle, views India as pivotal to growth in e-commerce, B2B, pharma, and automotive sectors, projecting a doubling of business within three years.
The investment in the India hub could follow the $350 million model used for FedEx’s Dubai facility. FedEx is also bolstering its Indian operations by increasing flights and expanding gateways in Delhi and Bengaluru.
India’s economic ascent and role in global trade make it a strategic priority for FedEx, serving both international firms entering India and Indian businesses expanding globally.
