Hindalco’s copper powers India’s Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, driving rail electrification.
Hindalco Industries has cemented its role in India’s modern transportation with the launch of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the intercity train in Gujarat, marking a significant milestone for Hindalco, the country’s primary copper supplier.
The new rapid rail, designed for high-speed travel, operates on electric lines largely produced using Hindalco’s copper. The company supplies 95 percent of the copper used for railway electrification in India. Hindalco’s copper is also integral to the motors and internal wiring of these advanced trains.
To meet the rising demand, Hindalco is expanding its copper smelting operations in Gujarat, aiming to position the state as a global hub for copper production. The company is also developing next-generation alloys to drive advancements in sustainable urban transport and electrification.
