Atlas Air to conclude domestic CMI services with Amazon, but continues with dry leases.
Atlas Air will terminate its domestic Boeing 737 and 767 CMI (Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) services with Amazon next year. This decision aligns with Atlas Air’s fleet strategy but does not signify an end to its relationship with the e-commerce giant.
Atlas Air Worldwide announced that it has negotiated an exit from domestic 737 and 767 CMI service flying for Amazon, as part of its strategic plan. Concurrently, they have secured three-year contract extensions for the dry lease of 16 767-300 converted freighters through its Titan subsidiary. These leases will begin following the expiration of the original 10-year contracts.
Atlas Air aims to focus on investing in widebody operations and e-commerce opportunities. With the Amazon CMI service ending in mid-2025, resources will be reallocated to expand investments in global, long-haul service with widebody aircraft. It plans to add eight new 747 and 777 aircraft to its fleet in 2024, which will be placed into immediate service to support the company’s 767 fleet operations for US military and commercial customers.
This shift in strategy underscores Atlas Air’s commitment to adapting its operations to meet the evolving demands of the global e-commerce and freight market.
