The Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB) broadens logistics project scope, proposing amendments to the GID Act, 1999.
The Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB) governing board has greenlit a proposal to expand the coverage of projects within the logistics sector. This proposal, aimed at streamlining project approvals and incentivising private participation, has been forwarded to the state industries and mines department for necessary amendments to the GID Act, 1999.
Top government sources indicate that the addition of the phrase “Logistics Infrastructure and Facilities” to the list of specific logistics projects will facilitate expedited approvals and government incentives. This move is expected to catalyse private investment in the logistics sector, boosting infrastructure development.
In a recent meeting in Gandhinagar, GIDB board members empowered the chief executive officer to submit the proposal to the industries and mines department for approval. The proposal encompasses various logistics infrastructure and facilities, including integrated logistics parks, multi-modal logistics parks, inland container depots, and cold chain facilities, among others.
Officials highlight that the inclusion of “Logistics infrastructure and facilities” in the priority sector will enable expedited project implementation through government incentives and facilitate public-private partnership (PPP) models for logistics projects. This strategic move underscores Gujarat’s commitment to fostering robust infrastructure development and facilitating private sector participation in the logistics domain.
