X-Press Feeders’ first dual-fuel vessel refuels with green methanol in Singapore.
X-Press Feeders, the world’s largest independent common carrier, has reached a significant milestone in sustainable shipping by successfully refuelling its first dual-fuel vessel with green methanol at the Port of Singapore. This historic event, supported by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and PSA Singapore, underscores the nation’s dedication to advancing renewable fuels in maritime transport.
The advanced vessel, the first of its kind constructed in China, features a German-designed MAN 5S50ME dual-fuel engine, enabling it to operate on green methanol. On its maiden voyage from Shanghai to Rotterdam, the vessel made a crucial stop in Singapore for refuelling while handling cargo.
Francis Goh, Chief Operating Officer of X-Press Feeders, remarked, “This milestone represents a significant leap forward for X-Press Feeders and the global maritime industry.”
This vessel will be integral to X-Press Feeders’ new green feeder routes set to launch in Q3 2024, named the Green Baltic X-PRESS (GBX) and Green Finland X-PRESS (GFX).
X-Press Feeders received the first of 14 dual-fuel ships from the New Yangzijiang Shipyard in mid-May. The company’s green methanol-powered feeder routes will be based in the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp Bruges, supplied by Dutch fuel provider OCI Global, the leading producer of green methanol globally. OCI’s green methanol, certified by ISCC EU (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification), reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 65 percent. Bio-methanol, produced from decomposing organic matter like waste and residues, represents a renewable energy source pivotal for sustainable shipping.
