M Angamuthu, Chairperson of Visakhapatnam Port Authority, revealed the port’s ambitious plan to transform into an eco-friendly port. The vision includes augmenting 15 MW solar power projects and implementing the Shore to Ship project and Green Tugs, following the practices of renowned European ports like Rotterdam and Hamburg.
The port intends to replace traditional bunker oil-operated tugboats with electricity-operated green tugboats over the next two years. Furthermore, the port authority aims to switch all diesel and petrol-run vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). These initiatives align with the Centre’s Green Port Guidelines, emphasising zero carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices in port development, operation, and maintenance. The port’s future also includes credit rating, bolstering its commendable cargo handling achievements.
