Defence Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled 90 infrastructure projects worth over Rs. 2,900 crore in 11 regions. The projects, managed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), included the Nechiphu Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, enhancements to two airfields in West Bengal, the creation of 22 roads, and 63 bridges.
The Defence Ministry commended the BRO for swift project completion using advanced technology. Rajnath Singh, at the inauguration event in Samba, Jammu and Kashmir, highlighted the BRO’s dual role in border security and regional development. Notable projects featured the 422.9-meter-long Devak bridge in Jammu and Kashmir and the 500-meter Nechiphu Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh.
Singh also initiated the Nyoma Airfield in Eastern Ladakh, set to cost around Rs 200 crore, and expressed optimism about the upcoming Shimku La Tunnel, which will connect Lahaul-Spiti in Himachal to Ladakh’s Zaskar Valley, becoming the world’s highest tunnel at 15,855 feet above sea level.
