The recent circular from the customs department has paved the way for the revival of Pune airport’s international cargo services after a year of dormancy. With a directive to resume operations, the airport administration has completed necessary preparations, signaling the imminent return of international cargo services starting this Monday.
Initially closed due to non-clearance by the customs department, the airport facility underwent scrutiny in December, and cargo services received approval in the first week of the new year after resolving minor technical issues.
Pune airport facilitates direct shipments to Singapore and Dubai and offers international cargo services for travelers looking to send baggage to Europe and the United States. Notably, the reintroduction of the ‘transit’ facility eliminates the need for additional clearance at other airports, streamlining the process.
The resumption of international freight services is anticipated to positively impact regional producers, farmers, and traders, particularly in the agricultural sector, mitigating losses incurred during the year-long hiatus. Pradeep Kumar, Deputy General Manager of Cargo at Pune Airport, expressed optimism about restarting the service on Monday, following the customs department’s authorisation.
