Navi Mumbai gears up for PM Modi’s visit as NMIA inauguration nears, with beautification and security drives underway.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on October 8, marking a landmark moment for India’s aviation sector. Ahead of the event, authorities have intensified beautification and security efforts across Ulwe and nearby areas. Roads are being resurfaced, illegal structures cleared, and public spaces refurbished to ensure a polished look for the high-profile ceremony.
The airport will be secured by 1,840 CISF personnel, supported by AI-powered surveillance systems, biometric screening, and Digi Yatra contactless check-ins. A robust disaster management framework is also being set up to enhance preparedness against emerging global aviation threats.
While the formal inauguration takes place this month, commercial operations are expected to begin in December, following final trials and finishing work. NMIA is designed to handle 20 million passengers annually in Phase 1, eventually expanding to 90 million by 2032.
With dual runways, smart terminals, and multi-modal connectivity, NMIA aims to decongest Mumbai’s main airport and emerge as a world-class aviation hub for the region.
