Peru invites India to co-develop supply chains for rare earth and critical minerals

In a strategic move to strengthen global supply chains for critical minerals, Peru has invited Indian firms to invest in joint exploration, logistical infrastructure, and technology collaboration. The appeal follows China’s export ban on rare earths, prompting countries like Peru to diversify trade partnerships.
At a National Day event in Chennai, Peru’s Ambassador to India, Javier Manuel Paulinich Velarde, emphasised the need for resilient logistics and supply networks for minerals like neodymium, praseodymium, and lithium, key inputs for EVs, defence, and clean energy technologies.
He highlighted that a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and Peru is expected by late 2025 or early 2026, which will boost bilateral trade and logistics coordination. With India-Peru trade rising to $4.03 billion in 2023–24, logistics connectivity will be central to sustaining momentum.
R. Dinesh, Honorary Consul of Peru in Chennai and Chairman of TVS Supply Chain Solutions, said Tamil Nadu-based industries are well-positioned to build integrated logistics frameworks that support sourcing, movement, and storage of critical minerals, creating a reliable Indo-Peruvian trade corridor.
