Achilles data reveals rising cyber and ESG risks among maritime suppliers as shipowners tighten procurement checks via Procureship.

In a major development for the global maritime sector, new data from Achilles Network has revealed that more than one in four maritime parts and service suppliers are exhibiting high or very high cyber vulnerabilities. As a result, shipowners are strengthening due diligence and compliance checks across procurement channels.
The findings are now fully integrated into the Procureship e-procurement platform, enabling buyers to view verified ESG and cyber indicators directly during supplier evaluation. The long-term partnership between Procureship and Achilles, announced in March 2025, has officially gone live, supporting stronger supplier selection and more resilient supply chain management.
Over 1,000 global suppliers were assessed during a 12-month review across environmental, social, governance, and cyber domains. Key findings include:
- 28% rated high or very-high cyber risk
- 50%+ lack third-party-assured anti-bribery systems, liability insurance, or information security policies
- ~25% do not measure greenhouse gas emissions
- 50%+ rely on uncertified carbon systems
Despite the concerns, the review also highlighted progress:
- ~50% are using certified environmental management systems
- 13% have established decarbonisation plans
Procureship now displays Achilles’ verified data both in supplier profiles and search results, allowing buyers to check Achilles scores instantly during quotation evaluation.
“Understanding the ESG capabilities of suppliers is crucial to safeguard day-to-day operations and reinforce ESG strategies,” said Grigoris Lamprou, co-founder & CEO at Procureship.
“Embedding this data into Procureship helps users shift from reactive to predictive risk management,” added Craig Rodgerson, CEO at Achilles.
