There will soon be eight new multi-modal logistics parks in Maharashtra. In a joint review meeting for the eight multi-modal logistics parks, Nitin Gadkari, the Union minister, and Uday Samant, the state’s minister of industries, announced. “Today, the cost of transportation is rising nationwide, with India seeing an over 16 per cent increase. We can reduce the cost by 6–7 per cent by creating these parks. Maharashtra would gain a great deal, and it would also contribute to job creation, according to Gadkari.
Samant stated that Ratnagiri, Jalana, Bhiwandi, Akola, Sangli, Jalgaon, Solapur, and Nasik are among the locations where the government is planning multi-modal logistics parks.
The state industries minister stated, “Reducing transportation costs would also mean that the cost of goods will be cut, which will, in turn, benefit industries and customers. The sites are selected in order to highlight the local goods. Ratnagiri would be the centre for mango and cashew nuts. Nasik, Sangli, and Jalgaon are known for their grapes; the Vidarbha region for oranges and dal, while parks in western Maharashtra can be used for sugar transport. The establishment of these parks will involve collaborative agreements being signed by the industry department of the Maharashtra government, National Highways Logistics Management Limited, and Railway Vikas Nigam Limited. The state government will make the land available for the same, “said Samant, adding that the proposals in this regard will be sent to the concerned departments soon.
The logistics parks have been conceptualised to enable seamless inter-modal freight movement and offer multiple functionalities such as freight aggregation and distribution. Storage and warehousing solutions and value-added services such as customs clearances and IT services will also be provided to users of these facilities.
