Maersk’s new facility in Tijuana caters to the tech, automotive, retail, and lifestyle industries, offering cross-border logistics solutions.
Maersk, a global leader in logistics and shipping, has unveiled its latest state-of-the-art warehouse facility at the Pacifico Industrial Park in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Strategically located in Prisma XII, this facility marks a significant milestone in Maersk’s commitment to providing comprehensive logistics solutions to its customers across diverse industries.
Situated in close proximity to key commercial ports such as Los Angeles/Long Beach and Ensenada in Mexico, the new warehouse facility enhances Maersk’s capability to serve clients in the technology, automotive, retail, and lifestyle sectors, particularly those with cross-border operations. Its strategic positioning, approximately 15 miles from the Otay Commercial Port and 20 miles from the San Ysidro Commercial Port, ensures seamless connectivity to major trading hubs, facilitating efficient transportation and logistics operations.
Part of the Manufacturing, Maquiladora, and Export Services Industry (IMMEX) services program for the Tijuana market, the facility is designed to offer a wide range of services tailored to meet the evolving needs of customers. These services include sorting, storage, cross-docking, and inventory management, as well as value-added services such as labelling, packaging, re-packaging, and order ulfillment. Additionally, the facility can accommodate fulfilment or e-fulfilment operations in the US, leveraging the Section 321 Shipment Type for e-commerce shipments, thereby enhancing flexibility and efficiency in supply chain management.
Maersk’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the design and features of the new warehouse facility. Achieving LEED Gold certification, the facility incorporates eco-friendly elements such as rooftop solar panels, 100 percent electric material handling equipment, LED lighting, heat island reduction measures, and efficient water consumption and waste management systems. This aligns with Maersk’s broader sustainability goals and reflects its dedication to minimising environmental impact while maximising operational efficiency.
Patricia Perez Salazar, Managing Director for Maersk in Mexico, emphasised the strategic significance of the new warehouse in enhancing cross-border integration and capitalising on Mexico’s dynamic manufacturing landscape. She highlighted Maersk’s commitment to delivering unparalleled service to customers, leveraging the advanced capabilities of the Tijuana facility to provide truly integrated logistics solutions.
In addition to serving existing clients, Maersk’s expansion in Tijuana opens doors for future collaborations and partnerships. Notably, in November 2023, Maersk welcomed German sportswear brand PUMA to its warehouse near Rijeka, Croatia, signalling the company’s continued growth and commitment to serving diverse industries across the globe.
