170 mw solar power PPA signed with Madhya Pradesh; railways urges nationwide collaboration in green energy.

Indian Railways is making significant strides towards achieving its Net Zero target, with Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw reaffirming the commitment to 100% electrification and maximizing renewable energy adoption. Speaking at the Global Investors Summit 2025, the Minister highlighted key developments, including the signing of a 170 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Madhya Pradesh government, securing India’s cheapest solar power at ₹2.15/kWh.
With 4,260 MW of installed solar and 3,427 MW of wind energy, Indian Railways is steadily reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Shri Vaishnaw urged states to contribute renewable energy—solar, wind, hydro, and nuclear—to further enhance sustainability.
A record ₹14,745 crore budget for Madhya Pradesh’s railway infrastructure underscores the government’s commitment to accelerating rail electrification and green energy integration. The shift from road to rail transport is expected to lower logistics costs, reduce oil imports, and promote environmental sustainability.
With a projected traction power requirement of 10,000 MW by 2030, Indian Railways continues to strengthen partnerships, paving the way for a cleaner, energy-efficient future.
