Tripura CM chairs task force to slash logistics costs and boost multimodal trade connectivity across the North East.

The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, chaired the third meeting of the High-Level Task Force on Infrastructure, Logistics Cost, and Connectivity for the North Eastern Region on 22 December 2025. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and the Chief Minister of Mizoram joined senior officials to review a strategic roadmap aimed at transforming the region into a gateway for Southeast Asia.
The roadmap focuses on strengthening multimodal connectivity, cross-border trade corridors, and digital enablers. It stresses the need for seamless coordination between ministries governing railways, civil aviation, ports, and shipping to ensure the North East acts as a unified economic zone.
Strategic Highlights:
- Regional Gateway: Mizoram is being positioned as a primary transit hub under the Act East Policy, with calls to accelerate the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project.
- Cost Reduction: The task force aims to significantly lower logistics costs to make regional trade more competitive.
- Infrastructure Priorities: The plan includes resolving environmental clearances and boosting power and telecom infrastructure to support industrial growth.
This initiative, part of the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, aims to modernise the region’s infrastructure while fostering local employment and domestic manufacturing. Following the meeting, inputs from NITI Aayog and other line ministries will be integrated to finalise the implementation framework.
