Manohar International Airport receives its first freighter, an A321 carrying 22 tons of cargo. This milestone enhances Mopa’s status as a major cargo hub in western India.
Manohar International Airport (MIA), operated by GMR Goa International Airport (GGIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Infrastructure (GIL), celebrated the arrival of its first freighter on July 24, 2024. The A321 Freighter aircraft, organised by Chapman Freeborn Air Charters in partnership with BBN Airlines Turkey, carried 22 tons of cargo. This inaugural commercial freighter operation at GOX utilized MDL/LDL systems for cargo offloading.
GMR Goa Air Cargo Logistic (GGACL) Terminal efficiently handled the offloading, storage, and clearance using GMR’s advanced cargo facilities. This event marks a significant milestone, showcasing the terminal’s capabilities in managing heavy and odd-dimensional freighter cargo and establishing GOX as a preferred cargo hub in western India.
Since beginning air cargo operations on September 8, MIA has handled approximately 5,000 MT of domestic and international cargo through airlines such as Air India, Oman Air, Indigo, Akasa, Vistara, and SpiceJet. GGIAL’s integrated GMR Goa Air Cargo Logistic Terminal has an initial capacity of 25,000 MT per annum, with the potential to expand to 200,000 MT per annum.
This achievement is expected to boost economic activities in the region and enhance logistical connectivity, further cementing Mopa’s position as a crucial node in India’s air cargo network.
