A fire erupted on the cargo ship Haridharshan at Porbandar’s Subhashnagar Jetty; all 14 crew members were safely evacuated.

On Monday morning, a fire broke out aboard the cargo ship Haridharshan, owned by Jamnagar-based HRM & Sons, while anchored at Porbandar’s Subhashnagar Jetty in Gujarat. The vessel was carrying approximately 950 tons of rice and 78 tons of sugar, which contributed to the rapid spread of the blaze. Within moments, thick smoke and flames engulfed the ship, prompting immediate action from local authorities.
All 14 crew members were safely evacuated, and three fire brigade units were dispatched to combat the fire. To prevent the fire from spreading to nearby vessels and infrastructure, the ship was towed into open waters. The fire was eventually brought under control, but the ship sustained extensive damage. An inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the fire, which is suspected to have originated from the engine room.
The vessel was en route to Bosaso, Somalia, at the time of the incident. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and assess the environmental impact of the fire.
