A FICCI-PwC report advocates creating a specialised body to streamline India’s multimodal transport integration.
A new report by FICCI and PwC India recommends setting up a central agency to accelerate multimodal transport integration across India. The “Integrated Multimodal Transport in India” paper, unveiled at FICCI’s 2nd GatiShakti Summit, highlights the need for coordinated planning to bridge institutional gaps and unify fragmented transport infrastructure.
Shri Pankaj Kumar, Joint Secretary at DPIIT, outlined government efforts to enhance logistics, including exploring real-time truck tracking using technologies like 5G, IoT, and RFID to improve transit visibility and identify road freight bottlenecks. Kumar also stressed increasing women’s participation in logistics by ensuring safer facilities at terminals and creating a more inclusive work environment.
Industry leaders highlighted key focus areas such as digital transformation, infrastructure development, and sustainability. The report proposes a two-phase roadmap, prioritising critical infrastructure and digital integration by 2025 and expanding rail and waterway access to all districts by 2030. It also emphasises green initiatives and bridging regional connectivity gaps.
