CONCOR launches North India’s first LNG station, boosting eco-friendly logistics at its MMLP in Khatuwas, Rajasthan.
The Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Railways, inaugurated a state-of-the-art LNG station at its Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Khatuwas, Rajasthan, on November 14, 2024. The event also marked the flagging off of the first LNG-powered road trailer with a container.
The ceremony was presided over by Ravinder Goyal, Member (Operations & Business Development), Railway Board, Government of India, in the presence of Sanjay Swarup, CMD of CONCOR, and other senior officials from Indian Railways and CONCOR.
A First for North India
This LNG station, developed in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), is the first of its kind at any MMLP in North India. It aims to ensure a steady supply of LNG for first-mile and last-mile logistics services using CONCOR-owned LNG-powered road trailers.
LNG, known for its cleaner and quieter performance, has an emission factor 25% lower than diesel. It can emit up to 28% less carbon dioxide (CO2), 100% less sulphur oxides (SOX), 59% less nitrogen oxides (NOX), 91% less particulate matter, and 30% less noise, making it a sustainable alternative in the logistics sector.
Commitment to Green Logistics
Sanjay Swarup, CMD of CONCOR, highlighted the initiative as a significant step towards green logistics in Northern India. “By adopting LNG-fuelled trucks for first and last-mile connectivity, we are aligning with ESG norms and reducing carbon emissions, thereby promoting eco-friendly transportation solutions,” he said.
Ravinder Goyal applauded CONCOR’s efforts, emphasising that LNG is a cleaner and more efficient alternative to diesel, essential for transitioning to a greener logistics sector.
Beyond the Launch
The event concluded with a tree plantation drive at the MMLP, reaffirming CONCOR’s commitment to sustainable practices. With 66 container terminals nationwide, including four MMLPs along the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, CONCOR continues to lead the way in integrating green solutions into India’s logistics landscape.
