Mithun Ramdas, SIEMA President, sees Coimbatore as key to Tamil Nadu’s export growth, and emphasises MSME support.
Mithun Ramdas, the newly-elected president of the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers Association (SIEMA), highlighted Coimbatore’s potential to significantly boost Tamil Nadu’s exports. Speaking at SIEMA’s annual meeting on Friday, Ramdas noted the country’s robust economy and promising growth prospects.
He called for the Central government to be more inclusive in promoting Micro, Small, and Medium-scale Enterprises (MSMEs) in government projects, specifically mentioning the Kusum scheme. Ramdas emphasised the importance of government funding for research and development to help MSMEs develop competencies for the global market, and the need to indigenize certain products to reduce import dependency. Improving internal efficiencies is crucial for MSMEs to compete internationally, he added.
Ramdas also welcomed the proposal to develop an electric vehicle cluster in Coimbatore, seeing it as a positive step for the region’s industrial growth.
At the meeting, Ramdas of Mahendra Pumps was elected president of SIEMA, with Ma Sendilkumar of Superteck Industries, Arun Ranganathan of Suguna Motors and Pumps, and Mohan Senthilkumar of Aqua Flow elected as vice-presidents for 2024-2026.
