The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the forthcoming concretisation of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway during his visit to Virar for the golden jubilee celebrations of the Vasai Janta Sahakari Bank. Acknowledging the safety concerns associated with the highway, Gadkari stated that the project would commence within a month.
Gadkari personally encountered the challenges of traveling from Mumbai to Virar on this route, emphasising the urgency for improvements. This announcement follows public scrutiny and protests, with the highway’s condition attracting attention after a fatal accident involving the Chairman of Tata Sons, in Charoti, Dahanu, in September 2022.
The highway has faced issues such as potholes and lengthy delays, leading to recent resurfacing efforts on the Versova creek bridge ahead of Gadkari’s visit to Virar. The proposed concretisation aims to enhance the safety and overall road conditions on this vital route.
