Amdocs, a prominent US-based telecom software firm, is driving a paradigm shift in the logistics and supply chain industry through collaborative initiatives with telecom operators. The primary focus of this transformative partnership is the identification and monetization of novel use cases for 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Telecom operators are actively exploring the potential applications of 5G in logistics, particularly for tracking vehicle fleets, optimising manufacturing processes, and enhancing connectivity in factories. The low-latency features of 5G present opportunities to extend healthcare services to patients in remote areas.
A notable outcome of this collaboration is the creation of a 5G clinic use case in Germany, developed in conjunction with Vodafone. This use case facilitates swift information delivery to patients and seamless exchange of medical history among different doctors, ultimately enhancing healthcare quality.
India is a key participant in this transformative initiative, with Bharti Airtel partnering with Amdocs to drive 5G and IoT monetization. Together, they are building a digital platform automating Airtel’s business operations, supporting the development of the comprehensive Airtel Black plan encompassing mobility, broadband, direct-to-home, and satellite communications.
Despite challenges in the deployment of 5G networks in India, Amdocs plays a pivotal role in supporting telecom carriers launching 5G fixed wireless services in metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Amdocs’ fiscal report for 2023 reveals a robust 6.8 percent year-over-year revenue increase, reaching $4.89 billion, attributed to strategic deals in cloud services, digital modernization, and successful 5G and fiber network deployment.
Collaborating with major global telecom operators, including T-Mobile, AT&T, Bell Canada, Three UK, Dish, and PLDT, Amdocs continues to drive innovation at the intersection of telecommunications and logistics. Their efforts are reshaping the future of the supply chain industry, introducing new possibilities, and redefining operational norms for businesses worldwide.
