Amazon launches a 3-million-square-foot robotic fulfilment center in Shreveport, boosting efficiency.
Amazon has announced the opening of its most advanced fulfilment center in Shreveport, integrating cutting-edge robotics and AI to enhance operations. Spanning over three million square feet, the facility will employ 2,500 workers at full capacity and features revolutionary automation technologies to accelerate logistics processes.
The centerpiece of the site is Sequoia, a multi-level system capable of managing over 30 million items. Sequoia works alongside advanced AI-driven robots—Robin, Cardinal, and Sparrow—to improve sorting and packing, cutting fulfilment processing times by 25 percent and enhancing safety. The fully autonomous robot Proteus also contributes to the facility’s operations.
In addition to efficiency, Amazon highlights environmental benefits with a packaging system that eliminates plastic waste by using recyclable paper. Robotics have reduced injury rates by 8.5 percent in Amazon’s tech-driven centers compared to traditional ones.
The announcement came during Amazon’s ‘Delivering The Future’ event, where the company also emphasised worker safety with initiatives like Dragonfly, a tool that lets employees report safety concerns in real time.
