The MoRTH ordered on Monday that all goods vehicles used to transport hazardous or dangerous commodities must be fitted with a location tracking device. This requirement is applicable to any vehicles built on or after September 1.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Transportation, it has come to their attention that commodities of a dangerous or hazardous nature that are not covered by a national regulation are being transported by vehicles that transport gases like argon, nitrogen, oxygen, etc. , have no vehicle location tracking systems installed.
Accordingly, the ministry ordered that every vehicle of categories N2 and N3, manufactured on or after the first day of September 2022 for new models, and the first day of January 2023 for existing models, must be fitted with a vehicle tracking system device in accordance with Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 140, it said.
The N2 category includes any commercial motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of greater than 3.5 tonnes but less than 12 tonnes. The N3 vehicle category includes goods-carrying vehicles having a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 12 tonnes.
