Air India Express, the country’s first international budget carrier, is gearing up for its merger with AIX Connect, formerly known as AirAsia India. The combined entity will also unveil its new brand on October 18. According to the Managing Director of both Air India Express and AIX Connect, Aloke Singh, key integration milestones have already been achieved, including migrating to a common reservations and check-in system.
Currently, the combined entity operates a fleet of 56 aircraft, including 26 B737, 2 B737 MAX, 5 A320 neo, and 23 A320. In the next 15 months, it plans to induct 50 new B737 MAX planes to expand its network and increase flight frequencies. This move is part of Tata Group’s strategy to strengthen its aviation business.
Together, the entity operates around 2,700 flights per week, serving 44 destinations, including 14 international ones. It is set to become the Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) of the Tata Group, which took over Air India and Air India Express in January last year. Tata Group is also consolidating its airline business by merging Vistara with Air India.
