Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) join forces to establish 10 logistics parks along SP Ring Road, aiming to curb pollution and alleviate traffic congestion.
In an effort to address rising pollution and traffic congestion, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) are collaborating on a project to establish 10 logistics parks along the SP Ring Road.
The move comes after a survey conducted under AMC’s Clean Air Project revealed that over 350 trucks flood into the city daily during peak hours in the Jamalpur APMC market area, causing significant traffic congestion and a subsequent increase in air pollution.
Outlined in the 2024-25 budget, the civic body’s plan envisions logistics parks on expansive plots along the SP Ring Road, providing space for heavy commercial vehicles like trucks transporting goods into the city. AMC, in coordination with Auda, is actively seeking suitable plots for these parks, with the expectation that large vehicles will unload their cargo at these locations. Subsequently, smaller vehicles will transport the goods into the city, aiming to mitigate traffic jams and control air pollution.
Previous studies identified heavy commercial vehicles as major contributors to traffic congestion in peak hours around areas like Jamalpur APMC market and Gita Mandir ST stand. The 2014 development plan suggested relocating Gita Mandir ST stand to the city outskirts, but GSRTC’s renovation and expansion efforts at the existing location have yet to address traffic issues. Despite plans to shift the APMC market in Jamalpur and other vegetable markets to the city outskirts, no progress has been made on this front over the past decade.
