The Security Service of Ukraine has announced that Ukraine has assumed ownership of the AN-140-100 cargo-passenger aircraft, previously under Russian ownership. The aircraft, acquired from the sanctioned Russian company Rostec, was being held by the Ukrainian state-owned enterprise Antonov for technical adjustments and tests prior to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Rostec, known for supplying combat aircraft to the Russian military, had the aircraft registered under the Moscow Aviation Complex named after S.V. Ilyushin. The Security Service is currently investigating the actions of the Russian company in relation to financing actions aimed at altering Ukraine’s borders.
This development follows Canada’s decision to seize a stranded Volga-Dnepr AN-124 aircraft at Toronto Pearson Airport, resulting in tensions between Russia and Canada. Earlier, the former head of Antonov faced negligence charges regarding the destruction of the Antonov AN-225 “Mriya” aircraft during the Ukraine-Russia war.
