The Department of Military Affairs is building an integrated logistics framework with AI analytics for theatre commands.

The Indian military is developing an integrated logistics structure to support its planned theatre commands, as part of an effort to move from service-specific logistics to an integrated defence framework, according to The Indian Express. The Department of Military Affairs is leading the move.
Details were outlined in a letter from Rear Admiral Kunal Singh Rajkumar, a joint secretary in the department, to Rajya Sabha MP Dr Ajeet Madhavrao Gopchade. The letter responded to Gopchade’s request to the Prime Minister to consider a unified defence logistics and fuel management framework modelled on the US Defence Logistics Agency.
A triservices logistics management application is under development to provide real-time inter-service inventory visibility and to integrate service-specific enterprise resource planning software. Work is also under way on a National Defence Codification System, while joint logistics nodes are planned across India.
AI and machine learning technologies are being incorporated for logistics optimisation, with predictive maintenance analytics already deployed in limited applications. Legacy financial architecture and procurement framework are also being revised to facilitate joint logistics.
