NITI Aayog has launched a new platform to aggregate freight demand and accelerate zero-emission truck deployment in India.
Shri Rajiv Gauba, Member, NITI Aayog, launched the Platform for Aggregating Clean Transport (PACT) at the 5th e-FAST India Summit 2026, marking a step towards accelerating the deployment of zero-emission trucks in India. The launch took place in the presence of Shri V Umashankar, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Ms Archana Mittal, Programme Director, Electric Mobility at NITI Aayog, Shri Pawan Mulukutla, Executive Director at WRI, and around 250 participants from industry, finance and the freight ecosystem.
A flagship initiative under the e-FAST India platform, PACT is designed to aggregate freight demand from shippers, Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) and other stakeholders, translating it into deployment opportunities across identified freight corridors. By bringing together shippers, LSPs, vehicle manufacturers, financiers and charge point operators, the platform aims to improve demand visibility, support charging infrastructure planning and strengthen the commercial case for electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
The launch comes as India’s electric freight market gathers pace. E-freight vehicle deployments rose more than fourfold, from 201 vehicles in FY25 to 826 in FY26, with over 3,000 electric medium- and heavy-duty trucks now in operation across the country.
Speaking at the summit, Shri Rajiv Gauba said the next phase of growth would depend on addressing ecosystem-wide challenges through collaboration, adding that innovative financing models, corridor-based charging infrastructure and market-driven partnerships would be critical to accelerating commercial adoption of e-trucks.
Shri V Umashankar said accelerating electric freight mobility would require innovations in logistics operations, financing, charging infrastructure and battery governance, noting that measures such as battery health monitoring systems could improve transparency and reduce financing risks.
The summit also introduced the ZET Marketplace, an interactive business-engagement platform connecting e-truck manufacturers, LSPs, charge point operators, financiers and technology companies. The plenary and technical sessions covered financing and de-risking mechanisms, charging infrastructure and policy priorities, with discussions focused on moving from individual pilots towards coordinated, commercially viable deployment at scale.
