One metric tonne of mustard honey exported by Dergang FPO to Dubai marks a milestone for Tripura’s emerging agri-export ecosystem and opens new global market opportunities for local beekeepers.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the first-ever export of one metric tonne of mustard honey by Dergang Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) from Tripura to Dubai. The shipment marks a significant milestone for Dergang FPO and Tripura’s emerging agri-export ecosystem, creating new opportunities for local beekeepers and farmers to access international markets through organised export-oriented production.
The export represents the first shipment of mustard honey from the region and is expected to strengthen Tripura’s honey value chain by encouraging export-oriented production, value addition and quality-focused practices. Farmers associated with the Dergang FPO are expected to benefit from improved price realisation through access to international markets, while the initiative is likely to encourage more Farmer Producer Organisations across Tripura and the North Eastern Region to explore export opportunities.
The initiative was supported by Salt Range Foods Pvt. Ltd., which worked with Dergang FPO to strengthen honey production and facilitate the development of an export-oriented honey supply chain. The export consignment was flagged off by Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath in the presence of Agriculture and Horticulture Secretary Apurba Roy, IAS, Executive Director of IFOAM Organics Asia Jennifer Chang, senior APEDA officials, representatives of the exporter, logistics partners and progressive beekeepers.
Speaking on the occasion, Nath said the first export of mustard honey demonstrates the global potential of Tripura’s agricultural products and will create better income opportunities for farming communities. APEDA said it will continue working with state governments, FPOs, exporters, processors and other stakeholders to promote agricultural exports from the North Eastern Region through market linkages, capacity building, quality assurance and export facilitation, while expanding the global footprint of India’s agricultural products.
