Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya to expand maritime, defence, multimodal planning and begin IRMS probation training.

Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), India’s specialised university for transportation and logistics, has unveiled ambitious sectoral expansion and academic plans during its 2nd Court meeting held at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday, 19 December 2025.
Chairing the meeting, Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, who also serves as the University Chancellor, praised GSV’s rapid progress since its operational launch just three years ago.
He stated that the university’s work has already positioned it as a “role model” in industry-driven learning and capability-building.
Major Expansion Areas Announced
GSV will now deepen its focus and curriculum development in:
- Maritime studies, with emphasis on ship building
- Bridge and tunnel engineering
- Defence logistics and military upskilling
- Multimodal transport and applied research
The university will continue to advance its core strengths in railways and aviation, while widening academic and industry engagement across areas critical to national infrastructure growth.
Training and Industry Collaboration
A major announcement confirmed that GSV will now design and conduct probationary training for IRMS officers, beginning this year, marking a significant milestone in its training mandate.
The university will also work closely with industry partners to create more Chair Professorships, supporting deeper academic excellence and research capabilities.

A detailed progress report was presented by Vice Chancellor Prof. Manoj Choudhary, highlighting remarkable advancements in:
- Executive training for Railways and Defence Forces
- Programmes for PM Gati Shakti initiatives
- Collaboration-led research projects
Members of the Court applauded GSV’s achievements and offered strategic inputs to further strengthen its presence in:
- Ship building
- Bridge and tunnel engineering
- Defence supply chain
- Multimodal transport networks
The Vice-Chief of Army Staff proposed affiliating Army sector academies with GSV and expanding defence training programmes.
Infrastructure and Research Boost
At the meeting, the University shared several forward-looking developments:
- An MoU with BISAG to accelerate PM Gati Shakti outcomes
- Financial support from AMD for GSV’s incubation facility
- Construction of new campus infrastructure
- Preparation of a master plan for an additional campus, with land already acquired
