Kanpur is the commercial capital of Uttar Pradesh and a centre for leather, textile, and defence manufacturing. The city also attracts a considerable number of air tourists due to its ancient pilgrimage sites and various prime institutions. Kanpur Airport is currently directly connected to four cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Gorakhpur.
Given the increase in passenger traffic, AAI has embarked on the creation of a civil enclave at Kanpur Airport with improved passenger facilities at a cost of Rs 143.6 crores. The development project entails the construction of a new terminal building as well as an apron adequate for parking three A-321 aircraft.
Built on a 6248-square-foot lot mt, the civil enclave’s new terminal facility, will be built to handle 300 passengers during peak hours. The terminal will contain eight check-in counters and conveyor belts for arriving passengers, as well as all modern passenger facilities. A parking facility for 150 cars has also been designed. The terminal building will be a GRIHA Four-Star energy-efficient structure with sustainability features. The terminal’s façade will also represent local art and heritage, with inspiration from Kanpur’s iconic JK Temple. The development project is likewise scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2022.
The creation of a civil enclave at Kanpur Airport with increased capacity will improve connectivity to this city, boosting the region’s overall growth.
