Gaurav Dayal appointed as JNPA Chairperson with a five-year mandate to boost port efficiency and growth.

In a significant leadership move for India’s maritime sector, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Gaurav Dayal, IAS (UP: 2004), as the new Chairperson of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) in Navi Mumbai. His appointment at the Joint Secretary level is for a five-year tenure, reinforcing the government’s focus on strengthening the leadership of India’s major ports.
With over two decades of administrative experience, Dayal has served in key roles across state and central government. At JNPA, he is expected to spearhead port modernisation, enhance operational efficiency, and accelerate sustainable growth, aligning with India’s broader maritime vision under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
As India’s largest container port, JNPA plays a pivotal role in the nation’s logistics ecosystem and global trade competitiveness. Dayal’s leadership comes at a time when the country is pushing for port-led development, digitalisation, and the adoption of smart port management systems.
Industry observers are optimistic that his appointment will advance JNPA’s initiatives to expand capacity, streamline cargo operations, and raise service standards to global benchmarks. Stakeholders have also welcomed his strong track record in administrative reform and his ability to deliver results in complex operational environments.
With this strategic appointment, JNPA is poised to play an even greater role in strengthening India’s maritime infrastructure, boosting logistics efficiency, and supporting the nation’s long-term trade competitiveness.
