At the SCO Trade Ministers’ meet, India pressed for fair trade, resilient supply chains, and secure e-commerce frameworks.

India reaffirmed its commitment to a fair, transparent, and WTO-centred multilateral trading system at the SCO Trade Ministers’ Meeting held in Vladivostok on 6 September 2025. Representing Commerce Minister Shri Amitabh Kumar, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, underscored the importance of export diversification, de-risked supply chains, and inclusive growth across the SCO, which accounts for 42% of the world’s population and 17.2% of global trade.
India called for a development-focused agenda, highlighting a permanent solution on food stockholding for security, effective Special & Differential Treatment for developing nations, and restoration of the WTO’s two-tier dispute settlement system. It also emphasised services trade and the temporary movement of skilled professionals to support MSMEs in global value chains.
In the digital economy, India showcased its Digital Public Infrastructure, including UPI, India Stack, and ONDC, proposing SCO collaboration on fair e-commerce rules and secure digitalisation. Stressing sustainable development, India urged equitable climate action under CBDR-RC and spotlighted its growing AVGC sector, recalling the WAVES 2025 summit.
