UPS launches a specialised healthcare facility in Hyderabad to enhance pharma logistics with advanced temperature control.
UPS has officially launched its specialised healthcare-focused cross-docking facility in Hyderabad, designed specifically for the pharmaceutical industry. This pharma-grade facility integrates global freight forwarding capabilities, aimed at enhancing the storage and transportation of sensitive pharmaceutical products.
Equipped with cutting-edge temperature control systems, the facility ensures that pharmaceutical products are consistently stored and transported within their required temperature ranges, preserving both efficacy and safety. It has the capacity to handle 15 pallets at temperatures of +15°C to +25°C, 7 pallets at +2°C to +8°C, and 50 pallets in uncontrolled ambient conditions, facilitating efficient distribution without the need for prolonged warehouse storage.
The new facility also acts as a safeguard for critical shipments, ensuring that vital pharmaceutical products remain protected even during contingency situations. UPS Healthcare has a history of supporting companies in enhancing their operations for over 20 years, boasting a team of more than 10,000 logistics experts across 216 facilities, totalling 17 million square feet, including 10 million square feet dedicated to cold chain compliance, servicing over 200 countries and territories.
“UPS Healthcare has been investing for a long time to meet the growing needs of this innovating market, building a ‘network within a network’ to ensure we provide the best quality, end-to-end service available,” said Grégory Goba-Blé, head of UPS India and director of MOVIN Express.
Global investments in advanced technologies, including robotics and automated picking systems, play a crucial role in streamlining order fulfilment, reducing errors, increasing efficiency, and ensuring regulatory compliance. In 2023, UPS Healthcare launched UPS Premier in India, a unique service that prioritises and tracks critical shipments within a 3-meter radius anywhere in UPS’s global network.
Adhering to Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards, the new facility meets strict regulations governing medicinal product distribution while maintaining high-quality standards throughout the supply chain. This ensures regulatory compliance at all times, contributing to patient safety through detailed documentation and traceability of all products, enhancing accountability, and enabling efficient recall processes when necessary.
“With India at the forefront of the healthcare industry, we’re committed to simplifying logistics for our customers,” Goba-Blé added. “When it comes to the future of healthcare, it’s all about innovations in biologics, speciality pharmaceuticals, and personalised medicine. We’re here to support these innovations with precision logistics that fit like a glove.”
Arnab Bhattacharya, Country Manager for UPS Healthcare in India, emphasised the facility’s advanced temperature control capabilities, stating, “It offers an unparalleled level of security and efficiency. We are truly the only solution out there that can manage the full, end-to-end supply chain.”
