International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada(ILWU) has joined ICHCA International (ICHCA), the international global association for cargo handling industries.
ICHCA brings together a wide range of players who play a fundamental role in advancing the global economy as a prominent voice in a critical area of the global supply chain. The presence of one of the most influential labour unions in Canada will be a huge help in achieving the fundamental goal of the ICHCA, which is to preserve and enhance safety in all facets of cargo handling.
ILWU Canada has long advocated for workplace health and safety for its over 7000 members on the west coast of Canada. They believe that re-establishing their membership of ICHCA is an important step and feel it is important for ILWU Canada to engage at the international level in the areas of health and safety. ILWU is hoping to engage in work at the technical panel level with ICHCA. It is important to have workers’ voices at the table.
