India reduces highway toll plaza wait times from 734 to 47 seconds, advancing logistics goals.
India has achieved a significant reduction in highway toll plaza wait times, dropping from 734 seconds in 2014 to an average of 47 seconds, according to the latest government data. This improvement is part of the broader objective to lower logistics costs from the current 13-14 percent of GDP to 8-9 percent by 2030.
To further enhance efficiency, India is advancing towards a free-flow tolling system using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) technologies. These innovations allow vehicles to pass through tolls without stopping, which reduces congestion and supports the National Logistics Policy 2022’s goal of a tech-integrated logistics network.
FedEx’s Kami Viswanathan highlights that such advancements in infrastructure and technology are crucial for creating efficient trade corridors. India’s logistics performance, currently ranked 38th globally, is expected to improve with these developments. The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan further supports this by integrating various transport modes to streamline logistics.
Additionally, investments in multi-modal logistics parks are underway, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing logistical efficiency and boosting economic competitiveness.
