Over 9,984 km of national highways have been constructed in the North Eastern Region in the past decade, says Nitin Gadkari.
The North Eastern Region has seen significant progress in road infrastructure. Over the past ten years, 9,984 km of National Highways (NHs) have been constructed with an expenditure of Rs. 1,07,504 crore. Currently, 265 NH projects are underway, covering 5,055 km at a cost of Rs. 1,18,894 crore. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways allocates 10% of its total budget to the NER, emphasizing its development.
Key initiatives include:
- SARDP-NE: Upgradation of NHs connecting state capitals to 2/4 lanes and providing connectivity to district headquarters, backward areas, and border regions. Total sanctioned length: 5,468 km at Rs. 63,542 crore; completed: 3,699 km at Rs. 38,160 crore.
- NHDP Phase-III: Development of 110 km of NHs.
- Bharatmala Pariyojna: sanctioned 2,767 km at Rs. 64,319 crore; completed: 272 km at Rs. 5,462 crore.
- Trans-Arunachal Highway: sanctioned 1,077 km at Rs. 11,643 crore; completed: 815 km at Rs. 8,708 crore.
- Frontier Highway: Enhancing connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh with 41 projects, covering 1,498 km at Rs. 29,562 crore, funded by multiple ministries.
