China’s railways transported 332 million tonnes of cargo in June, with freight turnover up 5.3 percent YoY.
China’s railways achieved a significant milestone in June, transporting 332 million tonnes of cargo, according to China State Railway Group Co. This represents a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 6.1 percent. The freight turnover for the same period reached 266.5 billion tonne-kilometres, marking a 5.3 percent YoY growth.
Notable surges were observed in the national rail shipments of containers, automobiles, and cold-chain cargo, which saw YoY increases of 18 percent, 12.1 percent, and 21.2 percent, respectively, all achieving record highs for the month.
The China-Europe freight train service maintained robust performance, recording 1,719 trips in June—a 15 percent YoY increase—transporting 180,000 containers, up 11 percent from the previous year. This service has made over 10,000 trips this year, connecting 224 cities in 25 European countries and over 100 cities in 11 Asian countries, transporting more than 50,000 types of goods.
Additionally, the China-Laos Railway, a key component of the Belt and Road Initiative, saw cross-border cargo shipments reach 2.783 million tonnes in June, reflecting a 20.7 percent YoY increase.
