The Indian government broadens the scope of new vehicle imports, incorporating Mundra Port and Garhi Harsaru Inland Container Depot (ICD) into the list of authorised terminals, now totaling 18.
In a recent notification, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has announced the inclusion of Mundra Port and Garhi Harsaru Inland Container Depot (ICD) in the list of terminals facilitating the import of new vehicles. This addition expands the total count to 18 ports and ICDs where the import of new vehicles is permitted.
Garhi Harsaru ICD, situated near Gurugram, joins the existing 16 ports and ICDs in facilitating the importation of new vehicles. The comprehensive list now includes nine sea ports, such as Nhava Sheva, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ennore, Cochin, Kattupalli, APM Terminals Pipavav, Krishnapatnam, Vishakhapatnam, and Mundra. Additionally, three airports, namely Mumbai Air Cargo Complex, Delhi Air Cargo, Chennai Airport, and four ICDs – Talegoan, Pune; Tughlakhabad, Faridabad; Garhi Harsaru, contribute to streamlining the import process for new vehicles.
ICDs, serving as dry ports, play a pivotal role in handling and temporarily storing containerised cargo and empty containers, offering port services to hinterland customers in proximity to their locations. This strategic expansion aims to enhance efficiency and accessibility in the importation of new vehicles across various regions.
