In a groundbreaking initiative, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), in collaboration with the World Bank and Cochin Shipyard (CSL), orchestrated a pivotal workshop on ‘Green Inland Vessels Transition’ in Kochi, Kerala.
Attended by representatives from various state governments and private entities, the discussions centered on realising net-zero emissions, aligning with the ‘MIV 2030’ and ‘Amritkal Vision 2047’ objectives.
The workshop showcased progress in green transition, emphasising alternative fuels like electric, hydrogen, and methanol. Notably, Kochi Water Metro’s innovative water-based metro system drew attention, prompting Maharashtra’s interest in a similar venture.
The event underscored the need for research, development, and infrastructure for sustainable maritime practices. Following the workshop, a site visit to Kochi Water Metro and Cochin Shipyard is scheduled for December 2, 2023. This collaborative effort marks a significant stride toward India’s commitment to green and sustainable transportation.
