X-Press Feeders introduces sustainable shipping in Europe with a new green methanol-powered feeder network.
X-Press Feeders has inaugurated Europe’s first feeder network powered by green methanol, a sustainable marine fuel reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 65 percent. This landmark development was celebrated with the christening of Eco-Maestro, the first of 14 dual-fuel vessels.
The network begins with routes linking Rotterdam and Antwerp Bruges to Finland and the Baltics. The initiative aligns with the EU’s new emissions trading scheme and upcoming Fuel EU Maritime regulations, emphasising the need for sustainable shipping practices.
The Green Finland X-PRESS route includes Rotterdam, Antwerp Bruges, Helsinki, Tallinn, and HaminaKotka. The Green Baltic X-PRESS connects Rotterdam, Antwerp Bruges, Klaipeda, and Riga. The green methanol used is certified under ISCC standards.
The Port of Rotterdam, Europe’s largest port, serves as the network’s base, offering robust green methanol refueling capabilities. Collaborations with key ports such as Antwerp Bruges, HaminaKotka, Helsinki, Klaipeda, Riga, and Tallinn are integral to this sustainable venture.
Francis Goh, COO of X-Press Feeders, highlighted the milestone’s significance in promoting environmentally friendly shipping and announced plans for further network expansion with additional dual-fuel vessels by Q3 2024.
