VOCPA initiates process-led reforms and a new strategy to cut friction and boost trade efficiency at Tuticorin port.

Recognising that long-term port competitiveness relies on streamlined operations and predictability, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) has launched a structured reform programme. These process-led initiatives aim to reduce operational friction, improve the ease of doing business, and enhance trade facilitation.
As part of this strategy, VOCPA hosted a Port Process Efficiency Workshop in Tuticorin alongside knowledge partner KPMG. The session gathered industry stakeholders to identify operational bottlenecks and prioritise areas for optimisation across the maritime ecosystem.
The event was opened by Vijay Kumar, IAS, Secretary to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. He emphasised that data-driven operations and stakeholder integration are vital for supporting global trade and sustainable growth, matching India’s broader maritime ambitions.
Chairperson Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, noted that recent gains in cargo performance stem from better asset utilisation and capacity upgrades. He stressed that future success depends on constant process evolution and closer collaboration with trade partners. Deputy Chairperson Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, further highlighted the value of engaging the wider trade community to meet efficiency goals.
VOCPA also reflected on its contributions to India Maritime Week 2025 in New Delhi, where it showcased advancements in digital transformation, green port initiatives, and coastal shipping.
The session ended with a commitment from VOCPA to continue pursuing reform and integrated service delivery to support the nation’s maritime expansion.
