SDHI and IMU join forces to establish Centres of Excellence, advancing shipbuilding education, skills and innovation.

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries (SDHI) has signed an MoU with the Indian Maritime University (IMU) to set up Centres of Excellence focused on shipbuilding, naval architecture, and heavy fabrication. The collaboration aims to strengthen maritime education, promote research, and prepare a specialised workforce to meet the growing needs of India’s maritime and shipbuilding sectors.
The agreement was formalised by SDHI Advisor Rajeev Nayyer and IMU’s Controller of Examinations Cmde. K. D. Joshi in the presence of senior officials, including Shri Rajesh Kumar Sinha, IAS, Special Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and Dr. Malini V. Shankar, IAS (Retd.), Vice-Chancellor of IMU.
As part of the partnership, SDHI will provide hands-on training at its shipyard facilities, while IMU will integrate industry-aligned academic programs. Joint initiatives with educational institutions, vocational training bodies, and government departments will also be explored to enhance skill development.
According to SDHI, this collaboration blends academic expertise with industrial capabilities, advancing India’s maritime vision and fostering global competitiveness.
