Leading scientists emphasise EV adoption and green hydrogen in India’s push for net-zero emissions by 2070.
Renowned scientists and leaders, convened by the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), highlighted key strategies for India’s transition to net-zero emissions by 2070.
Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, the Principal Scientific Advisor, underscored the importance of electric vehicle (EV) promotion through initiatives like the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) and Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME).
He also emphasised the National Hydrogen Mission’s role, stating that substantial investments in green hydrogen production are crucial for achieving the net-zero target. Additionally, Professor Ashutosh Sharma advocated for a focus on EVs, green hydrogen, carbon capture, and energy-efficient habitats to combat climate change globally.
The event also saw discussions on funding research programs and fostering innovation through schemes like NIDHI and TDB, as highlighted by Professor Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, DST. Padma Shri Professor G.D. Yadav emphasised sustainable solutions, including carbon removal and technological innovations, to reach net-zero emissions by 2070.
