Prada Group joins DHL in investing in sustainable aviation fuel credits, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions from air freight, leading to substantial savings.
DHL Global Forwarding has announced a landmark partnership with the Prada Group to invest in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) credits through its GoGreen Plus service. This initiative underscores both companies’ commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector.
Utilising DHL Global Forwarding’s expertise and infrastructure, the Prada Group has already made significant strides in carbon reduction. In 2023 alone, their collaboration resulted in saving approximately 4,500 metric tons of CO2, representing a substantial 7 percent reduction in the group’s total transport-related emissions.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is hailed as one of the most effective means of decarbonizing the aviation industry, capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80 percent compared to traditional aviation fuel. Produced from waste sources like used cooking oil and food waste, SAF aligns with DHL’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
DHL follows an insetting approach, utilising sustainable fuels to directly reduce emissions at the source. Air carriers deploy sustainable biofuels on behalf of DHL, resulting in tangible emission reductions. These reductions are then translated into certificates and allocated to shippers like the Prada Group.
Mario Zini, Managing Director of DHL Global Forwarding Italy, emphasised the importance of collaboration in driving decarbonisation efforts forward. He expressed pride in the partnership with Prada Group, highlighting its potential to foster meaningful change in the industry.
The Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) utilised by DHL for the Prada Group is certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), ensuring adherence to rigorous sustainability standards. This certification underscores the commitment to sustainable, traceable, and climate-friendly supply chains, promoting environmental stewardship and responsible business practices.
