Kandla Port is positioning itself as a central hub for India’s clean-fuel economy, driven by decarbonisation projects and green-energy investments.

By handling 40 vessel movements in a single day, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has broken its previous record of 38 ships in December 2023. The milestone was praised as evidence of outstanding collaboration and efficiency throughout port operations when it was revealed by the port on X on Sunday.
The port authority wrote in its post that the accomplishment was a proud moment for Kandla and attributed it to the commitment and cooperation of its employees.
Increasing International Involvement
The record-breaking performance coincides with increased attention from around the world for Kandla’s sustainable energy and infrastructure projects.
A senior British delegation, led by British Deputy High Commissioner Stephen Thomas Hickling and assisted by GH2 India, visited the port on 13 November to assess developments at India’s first domestic 1 MW green hydrogen plant. The group commended Kandla’s quick progress in green port projects and its expanding contribution to the developing green hydrogen ecosystem in India.
With the support of multiple ongoing decarbonisation-focused projects that seek to establish the port as a critical hub for green-energy investments, officials emphasised that Kandla is establishing itself as a major player in India’s clean-fuel value chain.
Along with officials from the nation’s forestry and wood processing sectors, the port also hosted representatives from the New Zealand High Commission. The group looked at Kandla’s function as India’s main EXIM gateway for lumber, handling a sizable amount of the country’s imports. The visit highlighted growing commercial opportunities and industry cooperation between the two nations.
On November 6, European specialists with expertise in EU laws and certification, with assistance from GH2 India, visited the green hydrogen facility and were informed about Kandla’s intentions for scale-up.
Together with the most recent operational record, these consecutive overseas visits demonstrate Kandla’s rising stature as a high-performing port, making the shift to sustainable operations and becoming a more significant player in India’s energy transition.
