Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, highlighting India’s strides in the mobility sector and announcing groundbreaking initiatives for drivers and the industry.
In a momentous address at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded India’s rapid progression in the mobility sector, citing the country’s economic growth and increasing income levels as catalysts for confidence in the industry.
PM Modi emphasised the transformative impact of the government’s initiatives, stating that India is now poised to become a global economic powerhouse, with the auto and automotive component industry playing a pivotal role. Acknowledging the concerns of truck drivers, he unveiled a scheme to construct 1000 modern buildings along national highways, providing essential facilities for drivers in the first phase.
Discussing the nation’s budgetary allocations, he highlighted unprecedented capital expenditure, surpassing 11 lakh crore, offering abundant opportunities for the mobility sector. The Prime Minister underscored the government’s role in expediting various infrastructure projects, including the completion of engineering marvels like the Atal Tunnel to Atal Setu and the development of 75 new airports.
PM Modi acknowledged the exponential growth in the mobility sector, pointing to a surge in car and electric vehicle sales. He encouraged industry leaders to capitalise on the unprecedented atmosphere, emphasising the importance of leveraging indigenous technology for sustainable growth.
Touching upon the National Electric Mobility Mission and the Production Linked Incentive Scheme, he assured continued government support, with a fund allocation of Rs 1 lakh crore for research and innovation. He urged the industry to explore research avenues, particularly in battery manufacturing, green hydrogen, and ethanol.
Addressing the human aspect of the mobility sector, he expressed understanding for truck drivers’ challenges and announced the construction of facilities on national highways to enhance their living and working conditions, and urged industry collaboration with ITIs to address the need for skilled workers.
He concluded with a call to break old barriers, promote indigenous design capabilities, and envision India as a global leader in the auto industry. The expo, themed ‘Beyond Boundaries,’ reflects India’s ambition to play a prominent role in the global supply chain. Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Nitin Gadkari, Narayan Rane, Hardeep Singh Puri, and Mahendra Nath Pandey were present at the event.
