Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal to visit Brussels on Oct 27–28 to advance India–EU Free Trade Agreement talks.

India’s trade diplomacy takes centre stage as Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, prepares to visit Brussels, Belgium, on 27–28 October 2025 for high-level discussions with H.E. Maroš Šefčovič, Executive Vice-President and European Commissioner for Trade of the European Union.
The visit comes at a critical juncture in the India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, with both sides intensifying efforts to finalise a comprehensive, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade pact. Building on the momentum from the 14th round of negotiations held earlier this month, the meeting aims to inject strategic direction and political impetus into the talks.
During his engagements, Minister Goyal will hold a bilateral meeting followed by a working dinner with Commissioner Šefčovič. The discussions are expected to cover key FTA focus areas such as market access, non-tariff measures, and regulatory cooperation, alongside a review of progress achieved so far and areas requiring further convergence.
The visit takes place as India and the European Union deepen their strategic and economic partnership, following a productive meeting earlier this year between Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and European Commission President H.E. Ursula von der Leyen. The leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to a future-ready trade relationship that fosters prosperity, sustainability, and innovation.
With the EU being one of India’s largest trading partners, Minister Goyal’s Brussels visit is seen as a pivotal move to translate high-level commitments into tangible outcomes. It underscores India’s resolve to strengthen supply chain resilience, promote sustainable growth, and uphold a rules-based global trading system through deeper engagement with Europe.
